About

The Hygge (pronounced hyoo·guh) House is a tiny taste of Scandinavia in Southeastern Minnesota. What is Hygge? In short, it's a Scandinavian way of living that focuses on hunkering down and creating a safe, comforting and warm place to while away. My husband and I hand built the Hygge House with your comfort in mind. We love being cozy and having space to spend together so when the opportunity arose to renovate our studio, we wanted to share it!

Good to know

We made every effort to build Hygge into the house whenever we could. This guest house is connected to our garage and was inspired by a similar guest house we stayed in in Sweden. The space has a woodstove for when it's chilly, areas for reading and lounging, as well as comfortable spaces to cook and play a game together. The loft has a King bed and the main area has a twin loft bed and a full size bed that was custom built for the space. There is also a floor mattress that can be pulled out of the bean bag if needed. It features a full washer & dryer, as well as a vintage GE Range & Oven that we traveled over 200 miles to get, a fridge, microwave, coffee maker and a dishwasher. It also has wifi, a smart TV, and blackout curtains.

Neighborhood

We live in a quiet rural development. We have nearly a one acre lot with kind, quiet neighbors whose homes are out of view from the guest house. We are right off the highway so we have the best of both worlds, rural feel, but a little over 15 minute drive to downtown Rochester and the Mayo Clinic Campus. A perfect escape from the city, while still having access to everything you need. Nearest grocery store is about 10 minute drive, plenty of restaurants & bars within 15 minutes drive, state parks within a 30 minute drive, Rochester International Airport is about 15 minute drive and Minneapolis Airport is about 1hr 15 min drive.

Guest access

The full unit is private.

Was visiting an old friend who worked in Rochester and lived in Chatfield so the location was right between the two and perfect. Becca’s place was warm, welcoming and had great style. I’d love to live in a space just like this :)
